History was made today as PACJA South Africa and the Sisonke Revolutionary Movement united their efforts at Reatakala Day Care Centre for a pioneering Climate Change Awareness Workshop & Clean-Up Campaign!
According to reports, climate change is identified as one of the paramount challenges of our era, affecting communities globally, with marginalized communities bearing the brunt of its impacts. In South Africa, where socio-economic inequalities are pronounced, the ramifications of climate change exacerbate existing vulnerabilities.
In a bid to address this urgent issue, PACJA South Africa, in collaboration with the Sisonke Revolutionary Movement, successfully convened a workshop aimed at enlightening communities, particularly those marginalized, about the intricacies of climate change and its repercussions. The workshop, which also entailed a clean-up campaign, sought to instigate community involvement and action towards environmental preservation.

The primary objectives of the event, were to raise awareness about the causes and consequences of climate change, empower participants with the requisite knowledge and skills to adapt to and mitigate its impacts, foster community engagement through hands-on initiatives like the clean-up campaign, and inspire advocacy for climate action within and beyond communities, especially amplifying the voices of marginalized groups.
The workshop targeted residents of marginalized communities in the Gauteng Province, notably Orange Farm, Sebokeng, and adjacent townships, with a particular emphasis on involving youth and community leaders, acknowledging their pivotal roles as agents of change.
The Climate Change Workshop and Clean-Up Campaign are depicted as significant avenues for empowering marginalized communities in South Africa to confront the pressing challenges posed by climate change. Through these kinds of initiatives centered on education, community involvement, and advocacy, the aim is to mobilize a collective of empowered individuals striving towards a sustainable and inclusive future for all.
